The One Percent - What a sham of a documentary

Well I just finished watching this documentary called The One Percent. It was all I could do to sit through it and I had to make myself finish it. What a sham. To sit there for 90 minutes and watch this pompous preppy young man put down the basic principles on what our country has been built upon for 3 centuries got me fired up. Then I had to watch him go to the projects and interview people whose only attribute I could see was an unwillingness to get out. One man was asked "Do you think your kids have a chance to get rich in thhis country?" His response was "Hell no." Well there's the problem right there. Get off your ass and go do something about it. It's not that difficult to get a good earning job. I can spend 15 minutes driving around and point out 20 help wanted signs. Welfare is the problem and all of our country's Depression Era socialist programs that were never meant to be long term institutions.

Welfare, unemployment benefits, social security. These are socialist programs that go against everything our country was built upon. I have no problem with short term unemployment benefits at all. However, having these as long term benefits only encourage the recipient to sit on the couch and do nothing for weeks. And to last month see the Democrats force the unemployment benefitsto be lengthened fired me up. Great! So now these people can sit around longer and live off rest of us hard working Americans. I tell you if the benefits ran out in a month these people will be right out there with a new job and working. instead they get paid to sit around for 3-4 months before having to get a new job.

So back to the documentary....The interviewer asked the founder of Kinko's "Do you want to make millions more dollars?" Well what a stupid question that was. I almost fell off the couch when he asked it. Last I checked that's what capitalism and the American Dream are all about.

What Milton Friedman tried to tell the young man was that without the entrepeneur's of our country creating these companies and products there are no jobs for the lower class. What democrats need to understand is the ramifications of ramping up taxes on the top 1 percent. Do you think these people will just say "thanks here's your tax check." Nope not at all. The money will be recouped from the businesses these people run and to do that the low end jobs will be eliminated. So in fact, taxing the top one percent and funneling these tax dollars into inefficient government programs for the poor will also cut the job market that these people rely upon.

Personally, I have no desire to see people with no drive or desire to get tax dollars for doing nothing and sadly that is what a good section of our population has come to expect. If you don't like your current situation get out there and fix it. Do something about it.

Hello Everybody!

I have been trying to figure out a place to start with the Acai Berry free trial an was just wanting to know if anybody had some opinions on whether or not it works to lose weight? So far here is the one article I have been able to check out that seemed realistic for the goals I have. Opinions?

I applaud Jamie Johnson for his film. Perhaps you should make an effort to examine the reality of this film. There is no level playing field in this country - just because there is a "Help Wanted" sign does not mean the job pays a living wage!

Nobody's going to get rich working at McDonald's. Seems you may have missed the point...

The point isn't about the people who are poor and unwilling to work...the point is there is 1% of American's controlling the greater portion of our country's money...the other 99% is not all poor people who aren't trying to succeed, in fact, I am positive a large number of them are average people who came from middle-class to wealthy families who worked hard to get to where they are. Many of the youth from these types of families have been successful college students as well as successful workers, but there are only so many places hiring for positions that pay what a person needs to live comfortably in America...the cost of living WAY out-weighs the money the majority of people can bring in monthly. Then that opens another can of worms called "Immigration". Why hire some "lazy American" for $12 an hour when we can hire an illegal immigrant for $8 an hour, dropping the lower-income Americans from the equation...these are the issues we are facing. Maybe before you get on your pompous blogger soapbox, you should make sure you even understand what the truths are in this country today. Anybody should be able to see this documentary and say to themselves...We have a lot of work to do here to keep our country alive. You can say "go to some other country and try to get rich"...well America is still the most powerful and influential country in the world today...we set the bar and we set an example for much of the world. Here we are allowing our people to die due to a silly tax that 1% of our population does not want to pay although, they can easily afford it and will likely make that money back in no more than a month. Normal Americans can not fathom the amount of money we are talking about.

I noticed many of the rich people interviewed said they believed the rich got richer so that they could spread the wealth...and "help" others. I am glad Jamie showed the Oscar Meyer heir who really thought about the state of the world because I know the majority of the rich people interviewed would never give up their money to help the other 99%. All-in-all, I felt it is an accurate portrayal of the gap between rich and poor and it did shine light on many social issues.

No, I believe you are missing the point. How much good is the Oscar Meyer heir doing by refusing his inheritance? Sure he is supporting himself, but in the long term, surely the rest of his family is helping our nation sifnificantly more by attempting to grow their company and hire more workers. Also, to say that the majority of Americans cannot earn enough money to cover the cost of living is absurd. A financially responsible person can support himself on minimum wage. A major problem in the culture of our less wealthy citizens is that of unnecessary discretionary spending. Too often the people complaining about their inability to make ends meet are the same ones making purchases that go beyond their budget and defaulting on credit cards they have no business using.
